A Canadian province engaged us to fully replace their gambling system and infrastructure as well as refreshing game offerings – including a replacement of cabinets, 5 new reel games and a poker option.

The central system consisting of a transaction server, a game manager, and a data warehouse required proprietary operating systems, GUIs, ETL processes, dashboards and reports custom to the customers needs and legal requirements. It was also required to accommodate video lottery terminals (VLTs) from 2 competitors to be able to plug into the system to have one solution for all games in the province.

The infrastructure required a site controller for all VLTs at a particular location (which also required universal plug and play), as well as a middle controllers on the game floor for player payout stations. Each of these also had proprietary operating systems, GUIs, and reporting development.

The VLTs deliverables consisted of new cabinets, hardware and firmware for bill and coin collectors to be GLI certified for use, proprietary operating system, back office system, GUI and 6 new games (also GLI certified).

We had a phased approach to deliver the new system and then do a VLT replacement. In phase 2, the customer was excited to engage with us on building out both a responsible gaming and a player loyalty module into the system.

In an added phase 3, we worked hand in hand with R&D and other provinces lottery commissions in Canada to build products compliant to their laws and with features that could be configured to preference. We also added the company’s first wide area progressive game allowing jackpots to accrue at the venue, regional levels and one across the province.

The work was executed with 2 talented teams working in tandem with frequent travel to the customer sites.

An industry leader in control engineering solutions, the client had no mobile companion app for its platform. This opened the door for 3rd party development and a missed opportunity for product extension.  My team rapidly built a prototype for a beta test that was met with great success.  Early adopters shaped the roadmap for the launch to full production and earned a feature on the cover of “Control Engineering” magazine.

The solution consisted of a web configuration app for an administrator to manage users, groups, roles, and the types of alarms and notifications to be delivered to each.  This information then drove user access, push notifications, and charting information within the native app on an Android or iOS device.

New Home Construction

The Envision online design center was a high-potential product with a renewed corporate focus and investment. I led a newly expanded team creating processes, implementing Agile methodology, and mapping the customer journey. With a proven positive correlation between time on site, customer satisfaction, and an increase in total spend, I prioritized customer-facing user stories in the product backlog to drive engagement.

  • The customer portal was completely redesigned and optimized for mobile use – which hadn’t been updated in nearly 7 years!
  • Room visualization, an existing BDX product, was integrated with incremental improvements and tied to products in the portal to display the cost to the customer.
  • A flooring calculator, a notoriously difficult option to properly quote, was developed and integrated as well.

These enhancements were showcased at the inaugural Envision User Conference. New home builders and manufacturers gathered for panels, workshops and keynote speeches, learning about effective digital marketing.
